The "Spraylast" brand identifies the ceramic coating applied on all starlox rollers, i.e. raw materials (powders), type of thermal spray equipment utilized, working parameters, anti-corrosion layers, coating thickness, sealing types, coating equipment and process together with control systems and procedures as a whole.
Depending on the dimensions and kind of rollers to process, Simec has selected different thermal spray technologies: definitely, so wide a range of products and sizes cannot be processed with the same thermal spray technology. Suffice it to think of the differences in depositing chromium oxide onto rollers having 500mm. diameter and 6000mm. length if compared to depositing chromium oxide onto composite material anilox sleeves on aluminum base; Simec and FlameSpray have 5 different lines dedicated exclusively to anilox production in order to take the best of technology, so that each one is suited for the type of roller or sleeve to be processed.
The definition and homogeneity of the cells engraved by the laser ray are only possible if ceramic coatings are high-quality; an excessive porosity of the coating would result in cells with irregular profile and non-symmetric bridges with different heights.
The correct melting of the coating during the exposure to the laser ray means lower surface tension of the cell and therefore higher ink release capacity; this means correct inking, less cleaning cycles and ghosting risks.
A low porosity ceramic coating ensures increased hardness and consequently longer anilox life and lower maintenance costs for the printer.
